Fine Art Classes
Drop-off Classes
Pre-Kindergarten – 5th Grade
Chagalls:
3 – 4 years
At this age we really love the messy stuff. We experiment with different textures & mixing up many of our own concoctions. Students also learn more artistic terms & techniques, as our teachers discuss patterns, design, symmetry, & more during our various painting, gluing & sculptural projects. Art, science, reading, & math skills are all incorporated into this fun experiential class.
Storybook Art:
Pre-K – Kindergarten & Kindergarten – 1st Grade
*Must be in last year of pre-school to join this class
(each grade grouping is a different class)
This stimulating class takes kids on an artistic journey through the wonderful world of literature. Each week we will read a story together, paying special attention to the illustrations. The children will then create art inspired by the plot and/or illustrations. Beginning reading and comprehension are part of this fun class, along with learning new art techniques and how stories can provide inspiration for art. New stories are explored each session.
Foundations in Art:
K-1st Grade & 2-3rd Grade,
5-8 year and 10-13 year homeschooling group
(each grade / age grouping is a different class)
Students will explore a wide assortment of materials in this higher-level art class, including acrylic paint, charcoal, pencil, clay, pastels and more. Instructors will discuss concepts such as color theory, perspective, horizon line, and the use of patterns in art, then lead the growing artists in challenging projects like still life drawing, self-portraits, and a variety of abstract and sculptural work.
* Parents are invited to participate in the homeschooling classes at a discounted price.
Cartooning 101:
3rd – 5th Grades
Join us in a superhero adventure! In Cartooning 101, children will learn how to draw and create comic book heroes of their very own. We are thrilled to have Professional Cartoonist Lyman Dally, creator of Molly Matters in Matters Magazine, join our staff for this exciting new class. Lyman will offer drawing instruction, of course, but will also teach the stories behind the drawings and explain how the stories and the illustrations work together to bring these fictional characters to life. Students will both draw and write comic stories to create a fantastic new world of comic fun!
